Brandy is a rescue, she was found as a puppy tied to a cement block in a parking lot. She was adopted because she was a instant devotee of Maverick, who is known as a ladies’ man.

Maverick was adopted from an animal shelter in Florida as a puppy. When my nephew who adopted him, was unable to take care of him ( he was in the Marines), I had Maverick flown up here from Florida.

All three were rescues from the Detroit Anti-Cruelty Society

We went to the Dearborn Animal Shelter to get a kitten. And as we looked around and held different animals, it just didn't seem like there was a fit with us. I began to look at older cats, and saw that Mr. Jingles (his shelter name) was a beautiful and healthy cat. He was way too big for his double cage and was just laying there. He had been there 4 months, but as soon as he sat on my lap - he began to perk up. He has been the best cat since we brought him home. He loves to follow us around and climb up and all around our deck. He is king of the castle here and is gentle and friendly with everyone he meets. We love him!

Frank Garza is a sports writer for the Latino Press and a professional boxing referee, he and his wife Ondrayah adopted Fiona from the Dearborn Animal Shelter in the summer of 2006. She instantly became an integral part of the family and has taken the responsibility of waking Frank at 5am and Ondrayah at 6am every morning whether a work day or not. Fiona's favorite past time is sitting outside with us and watching birds.

Piper is the most loving and caring chihuahua you could ever meet!! She loves fashion and has appeared in two fashion shoes at Petco, winning First Place in one of the shows. She loves to be chased and loves for you to interact in her "chasing game". Don't let the size fool you she has a bark that would make a lion shiver :)!!!

Audrey was rescued at the age of four from an apartment where she was left to die with no food and water. At least a week after she was abandoned, a neighbor heard her screaming when she began giving birth to kittens, and called the humane society. She had 6 kittens, but only three lived to be adopted. No one wanted Audrey as she only weighed 4 lbs. and had lost a great deal of fur due to poor nutrition. Most felt she would have numerous health problems and would die young. Through a series of circumstances, she went to live with me, and spent the next 15 years showing what love was all about. Audrey passed away in August 2009, but I will always carry the memory of the little girl who fought so hard to live and love.

My mom and I made two trips to Canada to pick up Jed first, and then 30 days later to get Elly Mae. They have been inseparable since they came to Michigan 7 years ago. All of these pictures were taken in our backyard where the dogs have 2+ acres to run around in.

Max was in the local pound twice. He also had a bad leg due to it being broken when he was young... We took him exactly 10 hours before he was scheduled to be put to sleep... He loves walks & just being with us...

Mindy also has quite the story. She was found by some nuns in Wausau Wisconsin roaming the yard & living in an abandoned building... She is pretty independent and doesn't need all the attention Max does, but she does still come up for love a few times every day, but soon she is off & has to go check out her territory & make sure everything is in its place.

She & Max would be lost without each other though.

We all live in Green Bay Wisconsin, BUT I am a HUGE Lions & Red Wings fan. My wife is from Minnesota, so she likes the Vikings & Wild....I am trying to break her of that :)

Betsy and Harry are official spokesdogs for the Dearborn Animal Shelter. They both have participated in the Read to Rover and Friend 2 Friend retirement center programs. Plus, Betsy visits donors all around town and serves as the assistant Development Director for her mama, Kelle.

Maggie likes eating her food on the couch or on Daddy's outside lounge chair (she's spoiled!).

Ellie is a rescue dog. My life partner and I adopted Ellie at the Detroit Zoo adoption event in May of 2005. She had some problems with housebreaking at night as well as a coarse, oily coat. We figured out that she is allergic to wheat and changed her diet. Immediately, she could last all night with no problem, her coat turned soft and beautiful, and she sprouted into a wonderful, playful dog.

Dermot, 6 years, adopted from the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter on July 17, 2004. We were told he was about a year old so we decided that was his first birthday and celebrate every year. Dermot is 70 lbs of lap dog and loves to cuddle. He also loves to go for walks and play at the dob park.

Madison was given up for adoption by a family who had an elderly Alzheimer’s parent moving into their home. She picked me out at the shelter right away, and pretty much knew she was going home with me that afternoon. She has been with me now for half a year, and she is fabulous -- lots of energy and companionship. She loves to fetch balls and play with her puppy-peers at Doggie Day Camp.

Charlie has lots of energy and loves to play outside. He loves going for long walks and car rides, as well as playing with his squeaky toys. He is 92 lbs, but will still try to sit on your lap if the opportunity presents itself.

Regal, dignified, handsome, graceful…a real class act Bleu you were so much more than all of that You were my trusted friend and an Amazing Cat.

She was 8 months old when Michael , my husband, adopted her. She was extremely timid- either not well socialized or mistreated. It took her quite a long time to learn to trust us and still has issues of trust of new people and uncomfortable in new situations. At home, she can be very silly and can be very entertaining. She and Margarita have developed quite the friendship.

She is a loving, playful, happy dog who is always lending a paw to help out anyone with anything they are doing! Molly is employed as the "director of human resources" at a small local business. She participates annually in the FFDAS Mutt Strut and loves joining in with the other dogs to help raise money for the Dearborn Animal Shelter. Molly spends her leisure time playing "around the table keep-away" and taking long walks at the park. She is very much loved by her family and friends.

Jake loves everyone. When we take Jake for a walk he makes everyone smile. Jake especially likes little girls. We think that is because the home he came from had 2 little girls that took care of the litter until they were all adopted out. Jake is a very sweet loving dog and we love him very much.

Griffin was adopted at the 2004 "Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo" event at the Detroit Zoo. He was adopted through the Monroe County Humane Society. He enjoys going for walks, playing with his toys, and watching Lions Games.
